Getting married fast-casual style

Formal structure for weddings is out, casual is in. Elopement weddings, barefoot weddings, call them what you will – they’re popping up on beaches, backyards and in baches all over the country. Faced with a choice between parting with a big chunk of cash on a wedding (current average $32,000*), many couples opt to stick it on a house deposit instead. Recently, my daughter and her partner had nuptials in an Edinburgh hotel with vintage frock, a high tea and just the parents. A year later she hacked some length off the dress for a follow-up party with friends in London.

The ceremony is no-ceremony, the catering is easy-going

‘Casual’ is the fastest-growing sector of the catering scene and Big Fig’s home-cooked vibe is the perfect food for the occasion. Imagine your Lebanese grandmother has spent days in her kitchen preparing a family feast. Think slow-cooked pomegranate beef cheeks, Baharat-spiced potatoes, Moroccan pumpkin tagine, and preserved lemon, herb and feta-spiked Israeli couscous salad. Big on flavour and texture and good for all the varied eaters in your wedding crew, from enthusiastic carnivores to gung-ho flexitarians and committed vegans.

“Your food was perfect and everyone was blown away by it. Had guests at the wedding even go into the store the next day for their lunch as they loved it sooo much.”  Benjamin Smith.

The service is anything but casual

BF Catering is run by a sister who spent 30+ years as an event manager. Having spent so long on the receiving end, she knows exactly how things should be done. This week, a customer summed it up “Karen is incredible to deal with. Flexible and accommodating, I couldn't have asked for more. A true professional. Big Fig never disappoints.” Plus, the catering is almost waste-free, coming in trays and baking dishes which you can return to us the next day. You might get a little cling film on top of the salad or a box around your cake, and that’s your lot.

Easy food, low-key prices

While we concentrate on making the food great, we leave the napkin-folding, cutlery-shining, and serving to you and your helpers. This casual approach is 100% of the reason our catering is so reasonably priced. You can see all of the menus and prices here. Check them out and let’s make a date!
